The fall respiratory virus season is upon us already within Holy Family Home. We are asking all staff and family members to wear a medical mask when visiting on any outbreak unit or units that are potentially have viruses circulating or symptomatic residents or staff.

As we are now finishing the first weeks of summer with all the nice weather we had in June and now in July I thought I would put out a little task for our residents. June 20, 2023 Dear families, I know it has been a challenging month for our residents, families and staff who continue to deal with respiratory outbreaks within our home. Yesterday we did get the green light to inform you that Holy Family Home’s respiratory outbreak is over as per the regional infection prevention and control and our medical director. Our unit 2A Sacred Heart was the last unit to come off outbreak measures on June 19, 2023. So today June 20, 2023 we do not have any units in outbreak or any symptomatic residents in the home. June 7, 2023 Dear families, I wanted to share with everyone that we did resolve some of our outbreaks this week within Holy Family Home. As per Regional Infection Prevention and Control and our Medical Director we did resolve the outbreaks on 2C St. Mary’s and St. Francis outbreak on Monday June 5; 4A St. Joseph’s, 4C St. Martha’s and St. Basil’s outbreak on June 6, 2023. May 23, 2023 Dear families, Over the weekend, we had numerous residents exhibiting respiratory symptoms and I am sorry to say that our resident’s home is quickly going into respiratory outbreak.  As of today, we have 6 out of 12 units in respiratory outbreak. May 9, 2023 Dear Families, As you may be aware on May 3, 2023 Shared Health announced that masking requirements across Manitoba’s health-care system would be lifted in long-term on May 10, 2023. May 8, 2023 Dear families, Today we have residents experiencing respiratory symptoms on St. Joseph’s (4A) unit. Nursing is continuing to monitor our residents closely. We had four residents develop Respiratory symptoms in the last 2 days.  Influenza and COVID testing has been done on residents exhibiting symptoms, the results were negative for these viruses, but the symptoms meet the definition of Common Cold Outbreak. In consultation with WRHA infection control, and the medical director Dr. Terry Babick we are to follow outbreak protocols for the St. Joseph’s (4A) unit at this time. April 28, 2023 Dear Families, I have some good news to share that the 2A Sacred Heart COVID 19 precautions are now removed as we are past the incubation period and no additional residents became symptomatic. With only one resident case on the unit, we never went into official outbreak. I wish to thank the staff, family and residents during this time to help prevent the spread of the infection to others.
