Thanks to the generous Festival of Lights donation campaign, special recreation events for our residents continued throughout September. "Movies in the Park" were held in September at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. Separate events were held so that residents from all units could attend while keeping in practice with social distancing and group size guidelines. Residents ate snacks and enjoyed movies under the stars in the beautiful park at Holy Family Home. Thank you to our Festival of Lights donors for helping make this another fun outdoor event for our residents!

Thanks to the generous Festival of Lights donation campaign, special recreation events for our residents continued throughout September. The fifth events were “Petting Zoo” events held in September. Prancing Pony Petting Zoo brought animals to turn into a mini farm for our residents. Separate events were held so that residents from all units could attend while keeping in practice with social distancing and group size guidelines. Residents got to meet, pet and feed different farm animals including: goats, an alpaca, a calf, a donkey, chicks and rabbits. This brought up many fond memories of the farm for alot of our residents! The fourth events were “Carnival” parties held in August.  Separate events were held so that residents from all units could attend while keeping in practice with social distancing and group size guidelines. Residents dunked staff members in the dunk tank, fished for ducks to win a prize, and enjoyed cotton candy. As the fall season is upon us and nature prepares for winter, on behalf of Holy Family Home and the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate we want to say thank you to Sumka Brothers Greenhouses for beautifying our outdoor spaces this summer. The plants and flowers throughout the parks brought hours of enjoyment to our residents and visitors. Even the birds, squirrels and rabbits found sanctuary in the beauty that was created. Thank you and God’s Blessing to the Sumka Family for their sponsorship.

The third events were “The Holy Family Home Olympics” parties held at the beginning of August.  Separate events were held so that residents from all units could attend while keeping in practice with social distancing and group size guidelines. Residents cheered each other on as they participated in different events such as axe throwing and golf putting. Thanks to the generous Festival of Lights donation campaign, special recreation events for our residents are taking place in the park throughout July, August and September. The second events were “Christmas in July” parties held at the end of July. Separate parties were held so that residents from all units could attend while keeping in practice with social distancing and group size guidelines. Residents were greeted by a “snowfall” as they entered the park, enjoyed frozen hot chocolate treats and had a visit from a special guest- Santa on rollerblades handing out gifts, all while enjoying the brightly Christmas-decorated atmosphere [...]

Season’s Greetings! The holiday season is fast approaching. It goes without saying that Christmas will be celebrated a little differently this year.  The recreation team is working on innovative ways to make the holiday season special for residents and their families.  Together we can help in making Christmas special for the residents of our homes.
