This year, we were able to celebrate Malanka, once again, with the residents and their families at Holy Family Home. It was so beautiful to see families celebrating a holiday that is meaningful for many of our residents.
Malanka, celebrated on New Year’s eve is a traditional holiday in honour of Saint Melanie whose feast day is on the last day of the calendar year. Celebrating (the last day of the year) or (New Year’s Eve) has a long history and actually dates back to pre-Christian pagan times.
This holiday includes lots of food, drink, singing, dancing, practical jokes, concerts and other events for all to celebrate together.
Holy Family Home was where it all happened. The celebration brought back many reminders of years lived and made fresh memories to hold on to for the future.
