It’s time to start talking about flu season. Every fall the home starts asking families if they want their loved ones vaccinated for influenza, pneumococcal and COVID-19. So in the next few weeks we will be connecting with you, the family members to see if you wish to have your loved ones vaccinated. We do anticipate that the vaccines will be available within the site in the early part of October 2023.
There have not been any changes recently to flu or pneumococcal eligibility criteria. See the link for details (www.manitoba.ca/health/flu/index.html).
Beginning in the fall of 2023, Long-term care residents will be eligible for vaccination if they previously were vaccinated against COVID-19, NACI recommends a dose of the new formulation of COVID-19 vaccine for individuals in the authorized age group if it has been at least 6 months from the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or known SARS-CoV-2 infections. Here is the link for details Province of Manitoba | Vaccination and Eligibility (gov.mb.ca).
Manitoba Health will be releasing a single consent form for influenza, pneumococcal and COVID-19 vaccines in the coming weeks. Once these consents are available to use we will have them up on the units and available for families to complete.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to your nurse if you have any questions.
Thanks,
